Minion maker

Fun game for you!

Isn't it boring when you have to learn a list of vocabulary with the parts of the body and all the different clothes?? Well, it WAS boring. I bring you a game to solve the problem 😏

This game includes lots of different clothes and accesories, apart from faces, colours and bodies to create the ideal minion for you! Learn vocabulary while you are playing a game!

Look at this funny pic 😄

If you want to start playing now, just click here:  Create your minion!

A Head Full of Dreams

I have a new song to share with you! 😁

This is one of my favourite songs of Coldplay. It is called "A head full of dreams" and inspired the name of this blog 😉 .
I use it in my classroom to reinforce the verb "to have got" and the present perfect tense.

Of course, this is not the only reason. In this case, the song talks about how ideal would be a world with no pain or drama, no hunger, no discrimination... A world where people chose kindness and compassion instead of cruelty and violence.

Coldplay = Education in Values

The lyrics are awesome. Enjoy the song and pay attention to Charles Chaplin. Yes, Chaplin is the off voice at the beginning of the video, pronouncing a fantastic and moving speech taken from his film "The great dictator".

"You, the people have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure!"
Charles Chaplin.

Another video, now with lyrics included (the correct spelling is "miracles", by the way; the word in the video is incorrect):

English around pupils

After having done our role-play "Introduce yourself and your friend", it is the moment to decorate the school corridor with excellent results!! They enjoyed a lot working in pairs at first, then in groups of four, and finally exposing their projects to the rest of the school students.

This is our beautiful exhibition outside the classroom!

In my classroom, Attention to Diversity is really taken into account, so this is my student Macarena's brilliant project done!

Why Coldplay? / ¿Por qué Coldplay?

This post is just to talk about why I have chosen the band Coldplay as a great resource to teach English.

They create wonderful music (this is not only my opinion, it is also said by millions of people, even by very good musicians all over the world) and their lyrics are magic. With their songs I can get all I need for my lessons: positivity, great motivation, interest from my students towards English as they love it, present tenses, past tenses, future tenses, grammar, vocabulary, pronunctiation, reading comprehension, politeness, empathy, kindness, good behaviour... and an infinite etc. Everything in a very natural, fun and relaxing way (the atmosphere created inside the classroom cannot be more pleasant; it's like a therapy for them). In addition, they are enormously humble despite their great popularity.

You may think it is too exagerated to say that they set a real example for society nowadays, but the truth is, that after a detailed research looking for the best songs for my students, I can tell they do. They are authentic role models.

Their lyrics (the most interesting part for the English lessons) deal with not only love and friendship, but also with a lot of current social problems, like hunger, discrimination, wars, pollution... And they are extremely commited with the spreading of social values through their music. Furthermore, all of them have children, so they try to be the best example as parents.

If you still have any doubt about my words, I suggest you the next video. It is a beautiful interview to the band. You'll see I am not the only one who thinks like this. It will only take you a few minutes and I am sure you'll find it very interesting and touching.

I hope you like it.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Speaking in groups

Hey! Do you remember the beautiful introductions we did as final tasks? Now it's the moment to put them in practice and check what we have learnt! Introductions allow us to do a first contact with someone who only speaks English. If we are able to talk about our personal details, we are being polite and capable to join a conversation. My students are going to show you how to do it. Just pay attention to them:

We did different groups in the classroom. This way, we work in a cooperative way, practising interaction all the time!

Lyrics of the latest songs

Hi again!! In case you want to work or sing with the lyrics in front of you while listening to the audio, here I show you an example of the type of papers I give my students when singing a song in the classroom. They get delighted to have pics related to the meaning and photos of the music groups apart from only words in a sheet.

Try to focus on the grammar and the vocabulary. The reason I choose the songs are not only for the beautiful sounds of music (this is an important issue, though), but also because its content is related to something we're learning in the English lessons.

I hope it is useful for you!

YELLOW

Singing is so much fun! But if you can sing in English is even more fun! Wake your ear up and be very careful with the pronunctiation. Try to imitate the sound of the English words.

Today we sing the song "YELLOW" of Coldplay. Can you find all the verbs in past while you listen to the song?

Would you dare to sing with my 6th grade students?? I warn you they do it really well. 😉

O (FLY ON)

Now let's listen to a very beautiful song from the band Coldplay. This musical group is from England and they have been composing music since almost 20 years, but became extremely popular just 5 years ago.

Firstly, listen and relax. Then you can try to sing the song with the video. It is easy to do. Don't be afraid! 😉♫🐦

Something my students really like is singing in the classroom, but also watch videos with me playing the piano for them. If you want, you can sing the song while I play the piano for you! Karaoke time!
