THIS IS ME!

Room in a box

Hello and Merry Christmas everyone!! 🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄🎅

Seguid siendo tan maravillosos y no cambiéis nunca.

Y ahora simplemente os toca ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡DISFRUTAR DEL VERANO!!!!!!!!

Hasta siempre ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Gruffalo and puppets

Another aim in Foreign Language lessons is to facilitate closure to English literature for children. We did an activity using puppets through crafts. All the children were involved and even some mothers helped them and explained how to do it. The materials used were simple:

- A shoe box
- A small cardboard
- Small wooden sticks
- Drawings and paper to create the characters
- A ribbon
- Stationery stuff to decorate
- Glue and scissors

The students play, act out and learn a traditional story from English literature, 'The Gruffalo'. At the same time, they identify and remember common lexis and grammatical structures (hidden practice), while they improve their pronunctiation while reading and performing.

It can be very creative to do, for example, to celebrate the International Book's Day

They had a very good time with this activity:

Attractive activities + motivation + teacher as a prompter and a facilitator = SUCCESS! 💪

Games for the little ones

Today's website is full of educative and entertaining games for the little kids of the house. These games help with spelling in an incredibly fun and delicated way (the Princess Presto games are specially sweet!).

As an English teacher, I would use them from 1st grade to 3rd grade, but sometimes the older ones like to play English games with websites full of colour! It can also be very interesting that siblings play together, so they learn at the same time in a cooperative way ❤

I hope you enjoy them a lot! And remember: learning English can be very fun!

English and Friends

This section is designed to introduce to you my foreign friends all over the world.

I would love you to understand that English is not only for the classroom. It is not only to pass the test. English is for love. English is for friendship. English is for culture. English is for LIFE.

Thanks to English I have had the opportunity to get to know fantastic friends from different countries. Why is it thanks to English? Because English means COMMUNICATION.

When you know how to speak English, you can talk to the whole world. My experiences with English have always been great. I would like you to feel the same as me. Truly.

I hope you are ready to know some of my international friends. I am sure you'll have a good time discovering the posts of this section!

Short dialogues (Role-play)

Now you are going to watch pair-work conversations about daily topics. With this, functional learning is prompted, as the students use English applying it to real life.

Teacher Maribel is doing a great job with the kids in the latest English lessons.

FIRST DIALOGUE 'My weekend' (past simple):

Nerea: What did you do at the weekend?
Lucía: I went to a concert.
Nerea: Did you enjoy it?
Lucía: Yes, I did. It was fantastic.
Nerea: What was your favourite part?
Lucía: I liked the music. It was fantastic.

Then, they say the same, but switching roles:

SECOND DIALOGUE 'At the shop' (conditional):

Houda: Hello, can I help you?
Patricia: Yes, I'd like some bread and many sugar, please.
Houda: How much bread do you like?
Patricia: I'd like one loaf of bread, please.
Houda: And how much sugar?
Patricia: I'd like one packet of sugar.
Houda: Anything else?
Patricia: No, thanks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Patricia: Hello, can I help you?
Houda: I'd like lots of bananas and a little of chocolate.
Patricia: How many bananas would you like?
Houda: I'd like five bananas.
Patricia: And how much chocolate?
Houda: One ounze of chocolate.
Patricia: Anything else?
Houda: No, thanks.

I love how they did it!! Mistakes here are totally unimportant for me, because they are wonderfully doing the most important thing when learning a foreign language: COMMUNICATING!!!

Well done, girls!!! 👌👌👌👌

India is so colourful!

Hey! Today I bring you a country which you didn't imagine English was spoken!

This country is INDIA and it is located in Asia. Because with English you can go everywhere in the world. Isn't it amazing? In this map, you can locate India easily:

As you can see, it takes 14 hours to get this country by plane. Yes, it is quite far 😲 The main city of India is New Delhi.

The most important festival in India is HOLI and it is celebrated at the end of March. It is a colourful and really fun party in which everyone goes out and throw coloured powder to each other! Also, you can learn how Indian people dress themselves looking at their clothes.

I have prepared a Coldplay video for you to sing and enjoy music while you learn about Indian culture. I use this song to teach and review Present Simple and Present Continuous.

The song is called 'Hymn for the weekend'. Does it sound to you? 😉

I bet you are going to like it very much

Another video with the lyrics:

Wait! This post is not finished!

In the classroom my students are also working on Indian culture. They are preparing the end of school year with a great dance for the school party! The song's name is 'Jai Ho' and it comes from the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' (thanks to the great teacher Maribel!!). They mix English + Music + Physical Education (CLIL methodology) here and it feels so good!

They do it really well and you can feel joy in their faces. Dancing supposes a great motivation for them. Because if they are happy at school, I am happy too. 💞😃

(Por supuesto, les llevé la "caja bombones"... 🍬 😏)

WORD SEARCH and more...

This time I give you a website full of games to practise some spelling of different topics to improve your writing skills. I personally like the WORD SEARCH. Maybe you find it difficult at the beginning, but there's no problem because you can use the HINTS!

Have fun and play while you learn 👍    CLICK HERE!

English + Social Science + Physical Education

Last 17th March we celebrated SAINT PATRICK'S DAY at school. This day comes traditionally from Ireland, but it is celebrated in the whole United Kingdom and also in other English Speaking countries, like it has been done since centuries.

JOSH, our wonderful language assistant, has been in charge to explain our students why this day is celebrated in his country (Northern Ireland) and the reasons to celebrate it (mixing English with Social Science). The children were very intrigued during his explanations and learned a lot about Ireland:

It was an amazing idea to combine English with Physical Education, using CLIL methodology, where my students had a lot of fun during their P.E. lessons learning a traditional Irish dance for this day. Here you are the video, where the whole school is dancing for Saint Patrick's celebration! It was a great day for everyone (the teachers enjoyed a lot, too)!:

Thank you, Josh!!! ☘☘☘☘

New York, New York

🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽NEW YORK CITY🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽

Today I want you to know the most famous place in the whole world. There are a great number of songs and films dedicated to NY. This is the city of the cities. The place where most of the films are done, the place where most of the celebrities live, the place where most of the skyscrapers are built... This is the city of the MOST of everything!

New York is one of the most important cities in the United States of North America. It is quite far from Spain as you have to cross the Atlantic Ocean to get there. You must take a plane if you ever want to visit it (the flight is 8 hours long from Madrid). Look at the map to se its situation:

NYC is wonderful. When you have a walk on the streets it is impossible not to look up to the massive skyscrapers. They never end! Although it is important to notice it is a quite expensive city. You should save some money before starting your trip. People in New York use the american dollar as official coin. I kept "20 dollars in my pocket ♫♫♫" as a remembrance:

In New York you can visit hundreds of things and also enjoy performances and matches of different sports. Apart from hockey, american football and baseball, the USA has the most important BASKETBALL league in the world, the NBA, and the KNICKS are the New York team. I had a great time going to Madison Square Garden to watch the NY Knicks playing basketball live!

Going to a concert is also a great activity. If you like music, New York has concerts of any type of music, including classical. The Carnegie Hall is considered one of the best music halls in the world. Also, New York has one of the most prestigious Music Schools in the world (The Juilliard School). I told you this city has "the most of the most" in almost everything 😉 .

Here you are some incredible pictures of the streets of Manhattan, the main area and the financial district:

 The Carnegie Hall

Skyscrapers!

The Empire State Building is the most popular and visited Skyscraper of New York

The Chrysler building is very popular, too. It cannot be visited, but you can take photos from the avenues around 😊

You should not miss the Flatiron building. Very rare and unique. Can you see how narrow it is?? 😲

If you want to know more about Skyscrapers all over the world, I suggest you this page. Here you can find information about the location of the highest skyscraper in the world, the number of skyscrapers in every city, the year when they were built, etc. It is very interesting!

NYC has looooooooooong avenues:

7th Avenue

5th Avenue

Times Square is one of the main attractions in this city. Hollywood gets crazy about filming here. In New Year's Eve, TV cameras from all over the world broadcast live its famous countdown! (I bet you have seen these screens before in your own TV 😉)

Central Park is a massive rest area for inhabitants in Manhattan. This incredible park is full of nature in the middle of the stressful city. People come here to relax, practising sports, doing exercise, having picnics, or just sunbathe:

The views to the city from inside Central Park are just breathtaking!:

As well as in the parks of London from the previous post, you can find interesting and funny animals, too! 🐦🐾

Brooklyn is, like Manhattan, a big neighbourhood in New York City. It is the second in importance and number of inhabitants, and the walking across its wonderful Bridge is a MUST:

The sunset from Brooklyn is one of the most beautiful things I've ever done in my trip adventures. I am so happy that my colleague, the great teacher Emma, from San Francisco, recommended that to me!

New York has so many amazing things and places, that posting never ends!! You must visit this city to see with your own eyes what I'm talking about. I sincerely hope you do it one day!
